PBT Introduction

Polybutylece Terephthalate (PBT), a part of Polyester catalogue, is condensation polymerized by 1.4-Butylene glycol and PTA or DMT, then after mixing procedure it become milky translucent to opaque, crystalline thermoplastic polyester resin. It collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyester or saturated polyester together with PET.

PBT is one of the thermoplastic polyester with milky translucent to opaque, crystalline appearance. The melting point is 225 to 235 celsius degree, the degree of crystallinity can reach 40%. It is high heat resistance, high toughness, high fatigue resistance, self-lubricating, low friction coefficient, weather resistance, and low water absorption which is only 0.1%. It can maintain various physical properties (including electrical property) and electrical insulating property under moist environment. However, the volume resistance and dielectric loss will be high. It is water, alkali, acid, oil resistance but vulnerable to the erosion of halogenated hydrocarbons, short of hydrolysis resistance. It can be rapidly crystallized under low temperature and the formability is good, but notch impact strength is low and mold shrinkage is high. Therefore, most of the PBT use glass fibre reinforcement or inorganic filling modification to increase the tensile strength, flexural strength and distortion temperature.

 
 

 

PBT is also known as thermoplastic polyester plastic. In order to apply to different processing industries, certain additives will be added into the PBT or mixed with other plastic. With different quantities of additives, different products can be produced. PBT is heat resistant, weather resistant, chemical reagents resistant, good in electrical properties, low in water absorption and good in gloss. It is widely used in electronic appliances, auto parts, machinery, household wares, etc. PBT products, along with PPE, PC, POM, PA, are called the five generic engineering plastics.

 

 

Huitong PBT Technology

Huitong is committed to the research and development of PBT production technology for more than 10 years. It has batch and continuous process of PBT production technology. The batch technology is by PTA or DMT, which is suitable for small but multiline production, low in investment and short in construction period. The largest batch plant at present is 60t/d running for almost 4 years. Huitong’s continuous PBT Technology is a combination of its own engineering and experience. PTA and BDO is the raw material, the advanced and unique technology and process of three-reactor is used. The BDO will be fully recycled and the recovery rate of THF is also high, which will highly reduce the consumption of energy and raw &auxiliary material. Huitong is building a PBT plant with capacity of 30,000 tons per year for Jiangyin Sanfang Group.
